History and architecture

Castilla Termal Monasterio de Valbuena is a luxury five-star hotel set in an exceptionally well-preserved 12th-century Cistercian monastery in the Ribera del Duero region of northern Spain. It combines Gothic monastic elements with modern design: stone arcades, wooden beams, high vaulted ceilings, and historic wine cellars create a unique atmosphere. The hotel has its own wine cellar with a tradition of almost 900 years, and the monastery offers views of the vineyards and the Duero River.  

Accommodations

The hotel offers 79 rooms and suites, many of them located in the historic part of the monastery. The interiors combine vintage furniture with contemporary comfort – some feature balconies or terraces, others a sauna or a freestanding bathtub. Every room comes with Wi-Fi, bathrobes, and slippers.  

Spa & wellness

Valbuena Spa offers extensive spa facilities, including thermal pools, 16 treatment rooms, contrast water circuits, and a chapel specially converted into a pool. The wellness treatments use natural cosmetics and mineral thermal water for complete regeneration of body and mind.  

Dining

The CONVERSO restaurant, under the direction of Michelin-starred chef Miguel Ángel de la Cruz, focuses on seasonal local produce, much of it straight from the hotel's organic garden. There is also the La Cilla gastrobar and a historic wine cellar room — bistro-style dining with traditional Spanish tapas as well as more formal gastronomic experiences.  

Surroundings and activities

The hotel sits in the heart of the prestigious Ribera del Duero wine region, surrounded by vineyards and nature. Nearby you can visit wineries such as Emina, Alejandro Fernández, and Vega Sicilia (within 4–17 km). The historic town of Peñafiel with its castle wine museum and romantic Cuéllar are also worth a visit — an ideal destination for lovers of culture, history, and wine. Guests can use the hotel's bike and e-bike rental for trips along the Duero River or through the vineyards.  

Golf courses nearby

• Golf Sotoverde (Campo Municipal Golf Sotoverde) A public 18-hole course in Arroyo de la Encomienda, about a 40-minute drive from Valbuena de Duero.
• Club de Golf Entrepinos Located in Simancas, this is the oldest golf course in the Castilla y León region, designed by the renowned golfer Manuel Piñero. It features 18 holes (par 69).
• Aldeamayor Club de Golf This club offers both a classic 18-hole course and a shorter 9-hole (par-3) layout. It is located in Aldeamayor de San Martín, just a short drive to the west.
• Club de Campo La Galera A smaller, 9-hole course right in the city of Valladolid — an ideal choice for a quick round without longer transfers.  Getting there The nearest airport is Valladolid (LEVD), about 65 km away, roughly a 1-hour drive.

Eleven Deplar Farm is located in remote northern Iceland, in the scenic Fljót Valley on the Tröllaskagi Peninsula. La Ferme Saint Siméon – the artistic gem of Honfleur overlooking the Seine

Historic heritage and an artistic soul: La Ferme Saint Siméon is a five-star hotel that grew out of a 17th-century farmstead and played a key role as an inspiring refuge for leading Impressionist painters such as Monet, Boudin, and Courbet. Monet even captured one of the buildings in his famous work "A Cart on the Snowy Road at Honfleur".
